Fitch Ratings Inc. cut its rating for Portland-based insurer StanCorp Financial Group Tuesday after a revision of its capital adequacy standards. "We are surprised and disappointed they made that change," said Jeff Hallin, second vice president of StanCorp investor relations.

Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company today announced it has approved the payment of approximately $1.38 billion in dividends to eligible participating policyholders in 2008 -- an 11.2 percent increase over the approved payout for 2007 and the largest ever for the company since it was founded in 1851.
